Jesup, Georgia

Jesup sits where the Altamaha River bends through Wayne County in Southeast Georgia — a town built on timber, the railroad, and the kind of small-town pace that’s become harder to find. It’s the county seat, the home of Okefenokee Fair, and for generations it’s been the kind of place where people know their neighbors and the porch light means you’re welcome.

The town grew up around the rail lines in the late 1800s, and that history still shows in the old downtown storefronts and the historic depot. The Altamaha itself — one of the largest undammed rivers on the East Coast — runs close by, feeding the swamps, sandbars, and hardwood bottomlands that make this part of Georgia what it is.
